Sandblasting and painting

Preparation

Before the glass can be sand- blasted, it must be covered with a transparent adhesive plastic film.

After that, the pattern is cut out in the film with a sharp knife.

On the surfaces that are to be matted, the film is taken away and the piece is ready to be blasted.
 
Sandblasting

The sandblasting takes place inside a closed cabinet. Hands and arms are protected with thick rubber gloves.

Inside the cabinet there is a nozzle that blows a mix of air and (in this case) aluminum oxide, under high pressure, so the glass slowly wears away and the surface becomes matt.

 

Painting

The sandblasted surface is very suitable for painting.

What kind of colour to use depends on light conditions and how exposed the glass is for wear.
